This week in the DVG:
- Pruned suckers from Fig Tree (if left on the tree, the suckers’ fast growth will take energy from the rest of the tree);
- Weeded where needed 🙂 and placed labels throughout the garden.
- Planted more Kale, Bok choi, and Chinese Cabbage (did you know studies show that consuming vegetables in the cabbage family can help prevent & fight cancer cells?);
- Erected a Potato Condo and planted Yukon Gold Potatoes. We’re experimenting… Which will produce more potatoes? We have them planted in a row, in a square foot bed, in burlap bags, and in the condo. A potato condo is any above-ground structure that can grow as the tubers grow (add soil to it as the plants grow taller & taller). http://www.myearthgarden.com/2011/04/the-potato-condo/
- Erected a Keyhole Garden using Cinder Blocks (photos below). A keyhole garden is a small-space garden that combines a compost system & garden in one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyhole_garden
